been scared and battered. /My hopes the wind done scattered. /Snow has friz me, /Sun has baked me, / Looks like between 'em / they done /Tried to make me / Stop laughin', stop lovin', stop livin'--/ But I don't care! /I'm still here! -Langston Hughes (Still Here)
His ability to write and move culture at a time where it was designed for him to be stagnic is powerful. The Harlem Renaissance wasn't just about black people who wrote great literature during a time period. Black people transcended art and culture. It wasn't just literary pieces, but everything created was dipped in honey and gold. I salute him and all the contributors of his era. What they did was timeless and black creators in 2016 proves this to us everyday because The Harlem Renaissance is not over.
